Hotel Rwanda - Truth and Reality
Last night I watched the highly acclaimed movie 'Hotel Rwanda', a true story that happened in 1994. I must say, to the best of my knowledge this movie is right on point when it comes to the subject of international politics. It makes you think real deep about what your most important values are and how you uphold them.
Here is a very interesting conversation from the movie 'Collateral' between Tom Cruise(Vincent) and Jamie Foxx(Max):
Max: "What are you talking about man. You threw a man out of the window"
Vincent:"I didnt throw him. He fell."
Max:"Well, What did he do to you?"
Vincent: "What?"
Max:"What did he do to you?"
Vincent: "Nothing. I only met him tonight"
Max:"You just met him once and you kill him like that?"
Vincent: "What I should only kill people after I get to know them?"
Max:"No, man."
Vincent: "Max, Six billion people on the planet, and you're getting bent out of shape because of one fat guy."
Max:"Who was he?"
Vincent:"What do you care? Have you ever heard of Rwanda?"
Max: "Yes I know Rwanda"
Vincent: "Well, tens of thousands killed before sundown. Nobody has killed people that fast since Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Did you bat an eye Max?"
Max: "What?"
Vincent: "Did you join Amnesty International, Oxfam?"
Max: "What?"
Vincent: "Save the Whale, Green Peace, or something?"
Max: "No."
Vincent: "I off one fat Angeleno and you throw a hissy fit"
Max: "Man, I don't know any Rwandans"
Vincent: "You don't know the guy in that trunk either."
I'm not in a position to judge those black people that decided to butcher their own, in the name of injustice or hatred or whatever the hell it was. All I know is that the world turned a blind eye, including fellow black people in neighboring countries, Africa, and all over the world. We heard about it when we were in Zimbabwe and we said, "Oh my God thats horrible!" but we went about eating our dinners.
Are we all a bunch of hypocrites? Or is International Politics a whole bunch of bolony? Or is it just about 'how much value do you have, and to who'?
